9.20 Hofbrau Bierhaus NYC Oktoberfest

Although Oktoberfest is officially over in Munich, the celebrations are still going strong in Midtown. From the full-on Bavarian authenticity of Hofbrau Bierhaus NYC, to the everyday devotion to all things beer of The Ginger Man, there’s more than enough beer-quaffing to be done in the Grand Central area to keep you right here near home as the celebrations continue.

The following are some suggestions for where to find Oktoberfest-specific brews and events:

Bierhaus NYC (712 Third Avenue, between 44th and 45th Streets – 212-867-BEER) is where everyday feels like Oktoberfest, so it makes sense that they’re a prime go-to spot for the actual event, going on now through October 31. Seating is limited and there’s a high volume of visitors for the ‘fest, so making a reservation is strongly recommended. You can reserve a table now by calling (212) 867-BEER or by emailing info@bierhausnyc.com. For more information on reserving your table, click here.

And for more information on particular festivities planned as part of Bierhaus’ Oktoberfest celebration, including the first officially sanctioned Oktoberfest eating championship, click here.

Though Sly Fox Oktoberfest is no longer available on draft, Beer Table Pantry (Grand Central Terminal, Graybar Passage – 212-922-0008) is now tapping Brooklyn Fiat Lux (among others) for $15 a full growler (+ a $5 growler deposit). Get two, and you’ll receive 5% off the whole shebang.

That’s not to say they aren’t participating in the annual beer-fest: they’ve also got a good selection of bottled Oktoberfest beers available!

Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C. (West Balcony, Grand Central Terminal – 212-655-2300) is hosting a Fall Beer Tasting Series – which includes Blue Point Oktoberfest – on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm in their Wine Salon! All tastings are complimentary to the public starting at 6 pm, with a different brew each week, paired with housemade sausages, pretzels, and mustards from Chef Ted Pryor.

——

In the spirit of Oktoberfest – but year-round! – The Ginger Man (11 East 36th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues – 212-532-3740) is perpetually serving gallons of beer from seventy taps (including Left Hand Oktoberfest and Spaten Oktoberfest draughts,  in celebration of the actual event!) backed by 160 brands of beer in bottles.
